Last week MARTA was deliberating over what to do about this. Now they’ve made a decision. The Gold Line name will be phased in over time.
Some in the Asian community in Atlanta do not like the name of the subway line though their community – the Yellow Line. All the MARTA subway lines were renamed last year to reflect colors instead of compass directions.

Article 2: Mixed reaction on MARTA’s ‘yellow line’ rebranding
I think I’ll just have to go down there myself to form my opinion 🙂
The following article is technically talking about the work/office environment, but the lesson applies just the same to the online message board and blog environments.
Article: The case for spelling in a fast-paced office
A choice quote:
Misspelling can be interpreted as: “Boy, he/she is stupid.” An occasional spelling mistake is not going to label you stupid. But if you make spelling mistakes in everything you write, then people may believe that you were at the bottom of your class.
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. You can easily tell who the stupid people are.
The New York Transit Museum Gallery Annex & Store at Grand Central Terminal is being completely renovated, and thus is now closed. In March it will reopen, with “a brand new exhibit and beautiful new store with enhanced lighting, uncluttered retail displays to accommodate expanding product lines and a new floor plan designed to increase customer flow.”
See below for hi-res images and a rendering of the space before and after the renovation.

A PDF of the updated budget-shortfall related service reductions package can be found on this page: Board and Committee Materials or directly here: http://mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/100125_1031_service2010-nyct.pdf.
The Philadelphia Public Transportation Examiner reports that tomorrow from 4 AM to noon all PATCO trains will stop at the top of the Ben Franklin Bridge and sound their horns in honor of fallen DRPA Police Cpl. Chris Milito. In addition, trains will NOT sound their horns between 4 AM and 6 AM as they enter and exit the tunnel portal at the west end of the bridge as to not disturb the funeral procession.
According to the service alert above, the (C) isn’t running right now due to a police investigation. The problem is that the (C) isn’t running at all this weekend to begin with!
No C trains running – Take the A instead
Jan 9 – 11, 12:01 AM Sat to 5 AM Mon
Note: A trains run local between 168 St and Euclid Av
Free shuttle buses replace A trains between Jay St and Utica Av
Things did not look good for the IRT No. 1 and 6 subway lines this morning. The (1) had signal problems at three different stations all at the same time!
While the (6) had a track problem at the Westchester Square Station.
The (1) problems were resolved one by one, with the last one cleared up at 1:41 PM. Unfortunately, at 4:01 PM, more signal problems cropped up along the (1), this time at the 125th Street Station. That issue was fixed over four hours later, at 8:39 PM, according to the service alerts emails.
New York Times article
Teams of people representing CIROC, the “Official Vodka of New Year’s Eve” – and Sean “Diddy” Combs will distribute thousands of debit and MTA Metrocards to adult consumers (while supplies last) in New York City between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Each debit card will provide up to $15.00 in cab fare – the approximate cost of a single taxicab fare within New York City. All MTA Metrocards are redeemable for a one-way subway or bus fare valued at $2.25.
First of all, $15 of cab fare will not take you any significant distance. If you’re taking a cab, you’re probably going further than just to the UWS or the UES or to Williamsburg. He should really be giving out $30 to $40 debit cards.
Second of all, what is this $2.25 Metrocard? Is it really just a normal green-on-white single ride Metrocard? Seems unlikely, since they normally expire within 2 hours. So will it be a normal pay-per-ride Metrocard? Will it be branded for the Vodka? If you get one, please let me know. And if it’s a special Metrocard and you want to let me have it when you’re done with it, that would be swell 🙂
