New York Times article
Teams of people representing CIROC, the “Official Vodka of New Year’s Eve” – and Sean “Diddy” Combs will distribute thousands of debit and MTA Metrocards to adult consumers (while supplies last) in New York City between 8:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Each debit card will provide up to $15.00 in cab fare – the approximate cost of a single taxicab fare within New York City. All MTA Metrocards are redeemable for a one-way subway or bus fare valued at $2.25.
First of all, $15 of cab fare will not take you any significant distance. If you’re taking a cab, you’re probably going further than just to the UWS or the UES or to Williamsburg. He should really be giving out $30 to $40 debit cards.
Second of all, what is this $2.25 Metrocard? Is it really just a normal green-on-white single ride Metrocard? Seems unlikely, since they normally expire within 2 hours. So will it be a normal pay-per-ride Metrocard? Will it be branded for the Vodka? If you get one, please let me know. And if it’s a special Metrocard and you want to let me have it when you’re done with it, that would be swell 🙂
